STEP 1: UNDERSTAND BITS

Binary is a language of 1s and 0s. Every group of 8 digits (called a byte) represents one character — a letter, number, or space.

01111001 = one character

STEP 2: CONVERT TO A NUMBER

Each position in a byte has a value. From left to right: 128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2, 1. If the digit is 1, add the value. If 0, skip it.
